Undercounter & PRO Series Expert Repair in Point Loma

An undercounter unit is asked to do the work of a full-height column while sitting in the warmest, most enclosed cabinetry in the house, and on this peninsula it usually sits nearest the outdoors as well. Beverage centers in La Playa patio bars, refrigerator drawers beside an Ocean Beach slider, a wine cabinet in a Loma Portal pantry: each draws its air through a grille barely above the toe kick, and each fouls faster than the big unit standing in the same kitchen. Air path, drain, seal. Work those three and most undercounter calls are answered before the sealed system gets a mention.

What this covers in Point Loma

Covered here: Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer drawers, beverage centers, undercounter cabinets integrated behind custom panels, and the PRO series with the PRO 48 among them. On PRO equipment the work adds door alignment on heavy stainless doors, hinge cams and closers, seal pull tested the whole way round both doors, ventilation checks, and the electronic controls these models lean on far harder than the mechanical units they replaced. Panel alignment is part of it as well, since a front that has dropped two millimeters stops sealing at one corner long before anybody would call it a fault.

  • A cabinet that runs constantly, never reaches its number and never actually breaks: air path
  • Fin packs loaded with settled lint on the bay side, or wind-driven salt and sand on the ocean side
  • Drain iced or silted, water standing in the base of the cabinet
  • Seals pushed out of shape by a heavy custom front, and hinges that have settled
  • Drawer runners and gaskets no longer closing square
  • PRO 48 door alignment, plus hinge cams and closers carrying heavy stainless
  • Electronic controller and thermostat calibration faults on drawers and beverage centers

Kitchens here are often remodeled around an appliance rather than the appliance being chosen for the kitchen, and undercounter units pay for that more than anything else does. A beverage center goes into an island framed for pots and pans. Nothing is cut into the toe kick, there is a solid back panel behind it, and the machine is left to dump its waste heat into a cupboard with no way out. It runs all day and never gets ahead. The owner's version is a cabinet that has always been slightly warm and has never actually failed. Ours, once the front comes away, is a condenser breathing its own exhaust. That fix is carpentry and airflow rather than refrigeration, which is worth establishing before anybody prices a replacement.

West of the ridge, anything installed within reach of a door that stands open is on a shorter clock. Salt that settles on a fin pack does not simply sit there. It draws damp out of the air and pins it against aluminum and steel long after the street has dried, and once corrosion starts inside a fin pack it does not reverse. On those addresses we go further than an inland clean would justify: connectors pulled, cleaned and re-seated, fan shroud and fasteners checked for rust, hardware swapped where it has begun to bloom. Salt caught as a film is a brush and a little patience. Salt caught after the fins have gone soft is a new condenser.
