Common fault
Why is my oven not heating properly?
Short answer
Uneven browning and long cooking times are a calibration problem, not a dying oven. The sensor drifts, the control believes it, and the oven heats accurately to a wrong number. No heat at all is a different and often simpler fault — a weakening glow-bar igniter on gas, or a failed bake element on electric. And an oven that went dead straight after a self-clean cycle is nearly always a door latch that has not released.
