Why does frost keep building up in my freezer?
Short answer
Frost that returns after you clear it means the defrost cycle is not completing. The usual causes are a failed defrost heater, a thermistor that has drifted, or a door seal that has lost its magnetic pull and is letting humid air in. The coil then insulates itself with ice and cooling degrades a little more each day — which is why owners describe it as gradually getting worse rather than breaking.
